Til ki chikki is one of those timeless Indian winter treats — simple ingredients, beautiful texture, and perfect nutty‑caramel flavor. You can make it in under 15 minutes.
Popularly prepared during the celebration of makar sakranti festival and is exchanged between friends and family. It’s the perfect time to make this recipe, and will help to keep the body warm.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sesame seeds (til) white or black (I like white seeds)

  • 3/4 cup jaggery

  • 1 tbsp ghee

  • ½ cup peanut, roasted and crushed

  • 1 tbsp dry cranberries (optional)

  • ½ cup nuts – chopped, almonds, cashews (optional)

  • ½ tsp cardamom powder

Directions

  • Apply ghee on the tray surface and keep aside.
  • Roast sesame seeds in the fry pan, on slow heat for about 2-3 minutes. Keep stirring
  • Transfer seeds to a bowl and keep aside
  • Put the pan on low heat and add ghee. When ghee melts, add jaggery. Mix for about 5 minutes on low heat. Check syrup consistency, drop a little syrup in water – it should harden immediately (hard ball stage)
  • Add roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, cardamom and cranberry. Mix together and transfer the
  • mixture to the tray.
  • Apply water or ghee to your palm and spread the mixture on the tray. Alternately, use a spatula instead of palms.
  • (Spread the nuts on top and press the nuts.) Let it cool and set for about 2 hours (or more if the chikki is not set).
  • Cut to your favorite size and serve.
  • Note: Use any dry fruit as per your taste.
  • You can put the tray in the fridge to set it fast.
  • You can also roll it in a round shape to make laddus and then apply nuts on top..

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
