minutesWe sometimes eat dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, and I always admire the atmosphere and of course the food, but the best part is the brown bread they serve. It’s delicious and full of flavors. I tried making it at home, and I wanted to share my copycat recipe – it truly tastes exactly the same. When you bake this, your whole house will fill with the smell of molasses and freshly baked bread!
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
1 ¼ cup warm water
2 tbsp butter, melted
¼ cup molasses
¼ cup honey
Rolled oats for topping
Directions
- Take a big wide bowl or a stand mixer bowl if you have one and add in the cocoa powder, sugar, salt, both flours, and yeast. Mix together and keep aside.
- Now, take a medium bowl and add the warm water, butter, molasses, and honey and mix.
- Now, add the warm water mixture into the flour mixture and mix with a stand mixer or your hands. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Take the dough out of the bowl and knead with your hands for about 5 to 8 minutes.
- If the dough is sticky, use dry flour on the surface and take a little oil on your hands.
- Take another bowl and oil it with 1 tbsp. Add dough and roll in the bowl, then cover with plastic wrap and keep aside to rise for about 2 hours.
- Now divide the dough into 3 pieces, roll each piece into a log.
- Take a baking tray, and line with parchment paper and place the loaves on the tray.
- Lightly score the loaves and sprinkle a bit of rolled oats on top of each loaf.
- Cover with more plastic wrap and set the loaves aside to rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350F. Bake the loaves for 30 minutes. When done, cool on a wire rack.
- Enjoy with butter!
