Moori Laddu (Rice Puff Crisps)

Second week of New Year is the time  when large parts of the country are shivering under intense cold waves, the fields are green again and the harvest is beckoning. This time of the year is celebrated with different names in different parts of India (Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Uttarayan, Magh Bihu and Poush Sankranti etc.)

Being winter time, sweets made out of jaggery are made and distributed among family and friends. I tried laddus using puffed rice and jaggery and it came out very well.

Mango Pudding With Rusk

It’s an easy to make recipe that tastes like Heaven. During summer time, there are many varieties of great tasting mangoes available and we love to enjoy the fruit as well as different recipes from Mango. I tried a quick mango dessert and it tasted super yummy. A quicker version is also described under notes.
Make it on the previous day and the results are satisfying.

Mawa Gujiya

With Holi coming around, now is a great time to make sweets! One of my favorite desserts is mawa gujiya. Gujiya is a delicious Indian sweet with a crispy outer crust, stuffed with a sweet filling. It’s made with flour, sugar, ghee, nuts, and most importantly mawa. It can also have stuffed sooji but the mawa taste is better to me. It takes a little patience, but it’s definitely worth it!

Bhapa Doi (Steamed Sweet Curd)

Bhapa Doi, or sometimes called Mishti Doi, is a very elegant and tasty Bengali dessert. Made with 2 main ingredients, curd and condensed milk with cardamom and saffron (or other ingredients) used for flavor.   It is one of the healthier and easy to make desserts with limited sugar and no oil or butter. Steaming the mixture gives it a very unique texture and taste. You can serve it warm or chilled though I prefer to eat it chilled.
Now you can have a dessert without feeling guilty-conscious.

Besan Mawa Barfi

Besan Barfi is North Indian fudge made with chickpea flour, sugar, cardamom powder  and clarified butter. It is especially popular during festivals and celebrations. When you see this desert, you start craving it. Very delightful, this sweet dish looks elegant and colorful. Moreover, it is very easy to make and there are not too many ingredients. Keep in the fridge for about a week.

Gulab Jamun Sandwich

Gulab Jamun are the ‘go to’ sweet dish in South Asian countries and Gaulab Jamun sandwich is the fancier and better tasting version of the popular gumal jamuns. It is a very elegant and tasty gulab jamun dish. When you look at it and taste it, it seems difficult to make. But, believe me and believe yourself, when you start the recipe, it is not too difficult and the end result is worth the effort. Nothing is  too hard in cooking. Make sure to follow the recipe step by step and make the dish. It is made of Khoya, paneer and sugar.
