Samosas are a popular Indian snack. Sometimes we crave eating homemade samosa but do not feel like putting in all the effort to make it. Potato pinwheel bite is an alternative that tastes like samosas and fairly easy to make at home with little preparation. 

Ingredients

  • 2 cup all purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup oil

  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp ajwain seed

  • 1 tsp black seeds

  • 5 tbsp water (or more as required)

  • For stuffing

  • 4 medium potatoes – boiled and mashed

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 2 tsp red chili powder

  • 2 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp garam masala powder

  • 1 tsp amchoor powder

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • Pinch of hing

  • 1 tsp green chili paste

  • 1 tsp ginger paste

  • ⅓ cup fresh chopped cilantro

  • Oil for frying

Directions

  • For dough:
  •  Add everything (except water) for dough in a wide bowl. Add water slowly and knead into a hard dough. Spread oil on it and cover, keep aside.
  • For Stuffing:
  • Put a pan on medium heat, add 2 tbsp oil and wait for it to get heated. 
  • Add cumin seeds and hing, stir and wait until cumin seeds crackle
  • Add mashed potatoes and mix ginger and green chili pastes and wait for 20 seconds. 
  • Add spices (red chili powder,coriander powder, amchoor powder, garam masala powder) and mix  well.
  • Cover the lid, cook on slow heat for about 2 to 4 minutes. Turn off the heat.
  • Add chopped cilantro and mix again. Leave for about 10 minutes or until stuffing is not too hot.
  • Take dough and roll into a large flat bread (about 4 mm). Take potato mix and spread a it on top. Roll it into a cylinder shape starting from one end and ending at the other. 
  • Cut the roll into ½ inch discs, press with hand and keep aside.
  • Put a pan on medium heat and add oil for frying.
  • When oil is hot, add discs prepared above and fry on slow heat for about 2-3 minutes or till golden brown on both sides.
  • Take it out and put on a paper towel to remove the excess oil.
  • Serve with tea time or with chutney. 

Notes

  • boil potatoes day before and keep in the fridge. Then use.
