Paneer Tikka is a North Indian appetizer where chunks of paneer are marinated in yogurt and spices and then grilled in tandoor (Clay oven). This recipe is for Afghan Paneer Tikka and is from the kitchen of mughals, known for their culinary skills. Instead of a clay oven, I grilled paneer/ vegetables in a pan. Alternatively, an electric/ gas oven can be used.
Use fresh paneer and serve it hot with green chutney and lemon.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups paneer – cut into bite size cubes

  • 1 red bell pepper – cut into bite size

  • 1 green bell pepper – cut into bite size

  • 1 yellow bell pepper – cut into the bite size

  • 1 large onion – cut into bite size

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • ½ cup dahi (plain/ homemade yogurt) or more, if required

  • 2 tbsp paneer tikka masala powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Green chutney and lemon for garnishing

Directions

  • Take a bowl and add dahi and tikka masala powder, mix, and add salt to taste.
  • Mix together very well. Then add paneer Cubes. Mix it so that all the cubes are coated well on all sides.
  • Cover with a lid and let it marinate in the fridge for about 2 hours.
  • Heat the pan on medium heat and add 1 tbsp oil, wait for 30 second and add bell peppers and onions. Stir.
  • Increase the heat to medium high and stir the vegetables. Add salt and pepper, Stir.
  • Keep the heat till vegetables turn brown and slightly charred.
  • Heat another pan on medium heat, add 1tbsp oil, and wait until hot (about a minute)
  • Add marinated paneer cubes, and roast paneer on all sides.
  • Mix paneer and vegetables and serve with green chutney lemon.

Notes

  • If you do not have tikka masala powder, you can prepare it at home also. Add 1 tsp garlic paste,1 tsp ginger paste,1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp red chili powder (or to taste), 1 tsp salt (or to taste) and 1tsp jeera powder to dahi.
  • You can also use Tandoori Stick for this recipe. Soak sticks in hot water for 15 minutes and then add red/ yellow/ green bell peppers and onions with paneer cubes in between to each stick. Roast in the pan or oven.
