Turmeric, ginger and garlic are considered superfoods and supposed to have multiple health benefits including remedy for digestion, inflammation and viral infections. This recipe of finely chopped ginger, garlic and turmeric seasoned with ghee/ butter and dry spices is not only good for health especially colds and flu but also extremely tasty (though a bit spicy) when taken as a relish or side dish. But then sometimes we need alternatives to spicy pickles.

  • ½ cup fresh turmeric- finely chopped

  • ½ cup fresh ginger- finely chopped

  • 4 tbsp garlic – finely chopped

  • 2 green chili – finely chopped, optional

  • 4 tbsp – ghee or butter

  • 2 tsp salt – or to taste

  • 2 tsp dry coriander powder

  • 1 tsp dry red chili powder

  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder, just for color

Directions

  • Put a pan on slow heat and add ghee or butter.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds and add chopped turmeric, ginger and green chili. Stir.
  • Add dry spices – red chili powder, salt, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Stir so that spices are mixed.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for about 5 minutes till turmeric/ ginger is tender. Stir a couple of times in between. Keep heat low at all times.
  • Add chopped garlic, stir it, close the lid and cook for additional 1-2 minutes
  • Ready to eat as a spicy relish with chapati, dal (lentils) or any other food.
  • Can be stored in the fridge for about a week.

Notes
