minutesGanesh Chaturthi is one of the most famous festivals in most of the states of India. This festival is in-complete without offering special modak/ ladoo prasad to the lord. Modak is prepared in different styles and ingredients in different places. In this recipe, I made it in Rajasthani and Gujarati style with churma (crumbled roti/ flat bread).
Do try this recipe on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi at your home and recommend it to your friends and family, if you like it.
Ingredients
2 cups whole wheat flour + additional 1/3 cup for dusting
1 cup sugar (or to taste)
½ cup ghee (Add more to make it tastier)
½ tsp salt
½ cup dry fruits sliced (almonds, cashews, and raisins)
1 tsp cardamom powder
Pistachios, saffron and rose petals – for garnish
Modak mold
Directions
- Add flour, salt, 2 tbsp ghee to a round dish and water slowly. Knead to make a hard dough similar to that for poori.
- Spread oil on top and let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Take the dough and divide it into 5 equal sized pieces.
- Take one piece of dough and press it between your hands or use a rolling pin to make a flat disc about 4 inches diameter.
- Apply ghee on top. Pick up the sides of the disc and pull them together at the top.
- Roll into a flat bread with a diameter of around 6-7 inches. Use flour dusting, as necessary.
- Take a flat pan and put on the gas at medium heat. Spread some ghee on the pan, put the rolled dough in the flat pan.
- Roast it similar to a paratha. Roast on both sides with ghee till it is golden brown on both sides. Your paratha is ready. Roast all parathas.
- Break all parathas into smaller pieces and add to the mixer jar, grind for about 2 minutes or till it crumbles.
- Remove the mixture into a bowl, add 3 tbsp melted ghee and sugar. Mix with a spoon. Add dry fruits and cardamom, mix again.
- Take modak mold, grease it with ghee shape paratha mixture in modak using the mold.
- Ready and garnish with pistachios, rose Patel and saffron.
- Offer as prasad to Ganpati Bappa and enjoy the prasad.
